Threads was a show I really enjoyed working on, as it allowed me to build on my previous experience of designing for dance productions and challenge myself to create a truly captivating show.
I worked closely with the programmer to develop and refine ideas, ensuring the final result was as clean and effective as possible. Having worked together before, the process ran very smoothly, and the combination of a designer working from a touchscreen alongside a dedicated programmer significantly reduced our plotting time.
The show also introduced several new elements to the Olympus Theatre. We used four drops positioned at the back and sides of the stage, incorporating a combination of moving lights, LED Pars, and battens. This gave us the versatility to introduce new visual elements throughout the performance without relying on the same ideas repeatedly.
We also made extensive use of battens, with eight positioned along the back catwalk and four flown at angles from the drops. These created striking visual effects and helped deliver powerful endings to key moments.
In addition, we utilised side Parcans arranged in four rows of three on each side of the stage. These provided strong side light and allowed us to create dynamic sequences that complemented accents and hits within the music.
