This gig has easily been the best I’ve worked on so far. Skerryvore themselves arrived later in the day, but their crew, the sound technician, lighting technician, and stage hand, turned up at 2:30pm to start setting up all there kit.

What really made this show stand out for me was their lighting technician. He brought a floor package with four blinders, eight Astera Titan tubes, and an Avolites Tiger Touch II. For me, this was ideal as it gave me the chance to get hands-on experience with an Avolites console and industry standard equipment ontop of being able to watch a professional lighting tech work through his full setup process. I was able to shadow him throughout the show, which was incredibly valuable.

He’s been touring with Skerryvore since they started 20 years ago, and his ability to busk the entire performance was impressive to see up close. He walked me through the basics of the desk, patching, recording groups, creating palettes and effects, and let me operate the support act at the start of the night.

It was a standout opportunity for me, especially because this is exactly the career path I want to pursue. I came away with a lot of practical knowledge that I know will help me as I begin working in the industry.
